Study

The Department of Physics provides the core course in Physics within the Bachelor's and Master's study programme. The course includes the fundamentals of Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics, Waves, Optics and Atomic Physics. Furthermore, the Department is responsible for the education in disciplines of advanced physics  following the basic course. These are: Experimental Physics, Classical and Quantum Theoretical Physics, Nuclear Physics, Elementary Particle Physics, Plasma Physics, and other specialised lectures according to the demand of other Departments. Skills and knowledge gained in Physics in the core courses is essential for further study in specialised departments, where students are trained in the specialisation of their choice.

The Department is training students within four Bachelor's and Master's study programmes. Programmes include: Mathematical Physics, Nuclear and Particle Physics, Physics and Technology of Thermonuclear Fusion and Quantum Technologies. All Bachelor's programmes are followed by Master's study programme.

Study programme: Nuclear and Particle Physics (NPP)

Programme Nuclear and Particle Physics is training experts in a wide range of fields from the detector and hardware design, through simulations and data analysis to theoretical predictions. Graduates are employed in the fundamental research both at Czech and foreign institutions and laboratories, in a private research, IT industry, medicine and others. Within the programme, students specialize in theoretical, experimental or instrumental branch.

The NPP programme offers:

  • Bachelor's study (3 years) ending with a Bachelor's degree (Bc.)
  • Master's study (2 years) ending with a Master's degree (Ing.)
  • Doctor's study (4 years) ending with a doctor's degree (Ph.D.)

Study programme: Mathematical Physics (MP)

The course of Mathematical Physics is focused on advanced disciplines of modern mathematical physics and applied mathematics. This study branch is training students to use gained knowledge for the theoretical physics development with a stress on rigorous mathematical methods; in the theoretical analysis and description of physical models for experimental fields; and in the scientific and engineering praxis, using modern technology.

The MP programme offers:

  • Bachelor's study (3 years) ending with a Bachelor's degree (Bc.)
  • Master's study (2 years) ending with a Master's degree (Ing.)
  • Doctor's study (4 years) ending with a doctor's degree (Ph.D.)

Study programme: Physics of Plasma and Thermonuclear Fusion (PPTF)

Physics of Plasma and Thermonuclear Fusion study programme is an interdisciplinar course focused on a physics of plasma and related technologies with a stress on mastering the process of thermonuclear fusion for the future needs of the humankind. Students trained in this programme are equipped with a wide range of knowledge in maths and physics and are able to apply them while solving technical, technological and scientific challenges connected to physics of plasma and thermonuclear fusion.

 The PPTF programme offers:

  • Bachelor's study (3 years) ending with a Bachelor's degree (Bc.)
  • Master's study (2 years) ending with a Master's degree (Ing.)
  • Doctor's study (4 years) ending with a doctor's degree (Ph.D.)

Study programme: Quantum Technologies (QT)

Quantum Technologies study programme is an interdisciplinar course focused on a training of top-class experts in fields including quantum information and communication, quantum optics, physics and technology of lasers or solid state physics and nanomaterials, who will participate in a research and scientific praxis. The core part of the course is oriented on quantum physics and its applications, the interaction of light with matter or quantum information. Students are trained for independent analytical thinking and to be able to apply gained knowledge in many physical disciplines and their applications.

The QT programme offers:

    • Bachelor's study (3 years) ending with a Bachelor's degree (Bc.)
    • Master's study (2 years) ending with a Master's degree (Ing.)
    • Doctor's study (4 years) ending with a doctor's degree (Ph.D.)
