Theory and Phenomenology of Heavy Ion Collisions

lead collisionIn the theory of hadron-hadron, hadron-ion and ion-ion collisions we are concerned with calculations of the production probabilities of newly produced particles and their properties. We also study the passage of particles through the nuclear medium and the effects that are involved.

In ion-ion collisions, we try to create a state of matter during the Big Bang, where the production of a so-called quark-gluon plasma is predicted. In this field, the behaviour of nuclear matter during and immediately after the collision of two ions is studied, where a large variety of effects and phenomena are involved that need to be correctly described theoretically.
