STAR - The Solenoidal Tracker At the RHIC - is a massive detector designed to study hadron production and to search for signs of quark-gluon plasma (QGP), a special state of matter with extremely high density and energy. This matter, with a temperature of the order of 1012 K, is thought to have existed in the Universe during the first microseconds after the Big Bang. Producing QGP in the laboratory can help us to understand what the Universe was, is and will be like. From the most exciting discoveries at STAR we can name the discovery of anti-helium 4 in 2011 and the discovery of anti-hypertrities in 2010. This experiment is located at the RHIC accelerator at BNL.
The Czech team has been involved in the analyses of data from the experiment for many years, specifically in the analyses of collision events with charm-flavour particles, jets, non-photonic electrons, and in the analysis of particle correlations.
Another topic the Czech team is to work on the experimental data processing and storage. All members of the group are personally involved in data collection directly at Brookhaven National Laboratory as detector operators or shift leaders.
