Quantum Technologies Ing

2 years, completed with a title Ing. (Eng)
Head of Program: doc. Ing. Martin Štefaňák, Ph.D.

Quantum Technologies study programme is an interdisciplinar course focused on a training of top-class experts in fields including quantum information and communication, quantum optics, physics and technology of lasers or solid state physics and nanomaterials, who will participate in a research and scientific praxis. The core part of the course is oriented on quantum physics and its applications, the interaction of light with matter or quantum information. Students are trained for independent analytical thinking and to be able to apply gained knowledge in many physical disciplines and their applications.

Branch description:

The continuing Master's Degree Course Quantum Technologies is an interdisciplinary study programme aiming to raise the top-class experts in fields of quantum information and communication, quantum optics, physics and technology of lasers, solid state physics and nanomaterials; involved in the research and a scientific-technological praxis. The main body of the programme is focused on advanced disciplines of quantum physics and their application in the solid state physics, the interaction of the light with matter or the quantum informatics. During studies, students are led to think independently and analytically and to apply their knowledge in the number of scientific fields and applications. The stress is put on preparing students for their independent research work. The programme involves an individual student project (the research task) resulting in the diploma thesis. Results gained during the preparation of the diploma thesis can be a basis of a pier-reviewed paper.

Graduate profile:

Knowledge: Graduate gains deep knowledge in modern parts of physics, especially in the field of quantum theory, solid state physics and lasers. According to the graduate's individual specialization, skills are further developed in quantum optics, quantum information, lasers or physics of nanomaterials. Graduates can continue their studies directly in the Doctoral Degree Course in the same or similar field.

Skills: Use of methods and processes of different parts of math and physics in solving both theoretical and engineering scientific problems in the area of quantum teory, solid state theory and physics and technology of lasers. Use of a modern computational technology and laboratory equipment. Ability to follow new trends in the respective field and quick orientation in interdisciplinary problematics, problem analysis and result synthesis. Expected characteristics of graduates include the responsible attitude to given tasks and ability to present results on a high level.

Competence: Graduates find occupation in education, research and industry, thanks to the analytical and systematical approach to work and an ability to work with modern computational technology. They can work at universities, institutes of the Academy of Sciences, development centers of big companies or other research organizations. The competence of graduates lays especially in the development of modern technologies with number of applications such as nanomaterials, metrology, informatics and secured communication. Besides that, graduates have the ability to succeed in leading positions.
