Graduates in Nuclear and Particle Physics at the Department of Physics are specialists in a wide range of disciplines. Their skills range from the designing detectors and hardware through to simulations, data analysis, control software development and theoretical prognosis. Graduates will find positions mainly in fundamental research in Czech and foreign institutes and laboratories, but also in commercial research and development the IT industry, the health industry and in other areas.
Within Nuclear and Particle Physics we offer the following structured courses:
- Bachelor Degree in Nuclear and Particle Physics program (3 years) completed with the title of Bachelor – Bc.
- Continuing Master Degree in Nuclear and Particle Physics program (2 years) completed with the title of Ing – (Eng).
- Doctoral Degree in Nuclear Engineering branch with Experimental Nuclear and Particle Physics specialization (4 years) completed with the degree of Ph.D.
Fields of study
-
Data Analysis – join international experiments and try to find a new particle, new symmetries or a black hole in the data that were measured.
-
Development of detectors and hardware – take part in the development of new technology to be used for experiments in high energy physics , but also in hospitals and satellites.
-
Theory – try to explain as yet unexplained phenomena or unite all the forces in the world into one theory .
-
Software – join in the development of new methods of data analysis or software for the operation of experiments.
As a student of NPP, you will be able to join one of a number of international projects in which we co-operate, e.g., the experiments ALICE and ATLAS in CERNu, the experiment EPIC a STAR in BNL or the experiment CBM v GSI.
The study of physics of plasma and thermonuclear fusion is interdisciplinary in character and includes classical and advanced parts of physics, mathematics and computer science. Graduates in this branch are able to use their knowledge in natural science and engineering work with the aid of modern information technology.
The branch Physics of Plasma and Thermonuclear Fusion offers the structured courses:
- Bachelor degree course (3 years) completed with the title Bc.
- Continuing Master´s Degree Course (2 years), completed with the title Ing.
- Doctoral Degree Program (4 years) completed with the degree of Ph.D.
- as an area of the Nuclear Englineeing field of study
- as a joint doctoral programme with the Ghent University in Belgium
Quantum Technologies study programme is an interdisciplinar course focused on a training of top-class experts in fields including quantum information and communication, quantum optics, physics and technology of lasers or solid state physics and nanomaterials, who will participate in a research and scientific praxis. The core part of the course is oriented on quantum physics and its applications, the interaction of light with matter or quantum information. Students are trained for independent analytical thinking and to be able to apply gained knowledge in many physical disciplines and their applications.
Within Quantum technologies we offer the following structured courses:
- Bachelor Degree Program (3 years) completed with the title of Bachelor – Bc.
- Continuing Master Degree Program (2 years) completed with the title of Ing – (Eng).
- Doctoral Degree Program (4 years) completed with the degree of Ph.D.
Graduates in Mathematical Physics is oriented on advanced parts of modern mathematical physics and applied mathematics. Study of this branch allows graduates to use gained knowledge to the development of theoretical physics, in natural sciences and engineering.
In Mathematical Physics we offer the structured courses:
- Bachelor degree course in the Mathematical Engineering program with Mathematical Physics specialization (3 years) completed with the title Bc.
- Continuing Master´s Degree Course in the Mathematical Physics program (2 years) , completed with the title Ing (Eng)
- Doctoral Degree Course in the Mathematical Engineering branch with Mathematical Physics specialization (4 years) , completed with the title Ph.D.
